Frequently Asked Roofing Questions

Q: How long will my roof last?

A: There are several key factors that determine the answer to this question. For starters, what is your roof made of? Which thickness of shingles are there? What type of weather abuses does your roof need to hold up against? Was the company that installed it doing quality work and installing the roof properly?

A general range for Asphalt roofs is anywhere from 15-20 years. Metal roofs can last significantly longer with a range of 40-70 years. Regions with severe weather can shorten the lifespans, but each range is a good ballpark

Q: How do I know if I have a "failing roof?"

A: Loose or missing shingles, obvious roof sagging, exposed nail heads, granules in gutters and downspouts, leaks, or a noticeable increase in heating or cooling bill can all be good indications of a failing roof.

Q: What type of roof is best?

A: The best type of roof is one that will meet your needs. That might be an asphalt shingle roof, it might be a metal roof, it might be a combination. It really depends on what you need.

Q: How do I know who I'm hiring is doing a good job?

A: Reputation matters in this business. A roofing company is only as good as their last project. If someone has a poor experience, the company will feel the repercussions. A good roofing contractor will have all the necessary licenses and certifications and will be able to produce them when asked. Most, if not all, crews will have insurance. A good company will do their due diligence in creating a transparent and fair transaction. Here at Reno Roofers, we want to treat you like family. If you feel uncomfortable, let us know and we'll work to make you feel confident in your decisions.

Q: Is my roof covered by insurance?

A: Most homeowner's insurance will cover damage from hail, wind, or fallen trees. It depends on the policy, but insurance can cover repairs and replacements with paying a deductible.

Q: If my roof is leaking, do I need to replace the whole thing?

A: Not necessarily. It depends on the extent of the damage caused by the leak. If caught early enough, or the leak is small. A simple repair might be able to get the job done for you. If your roof is older and the damage involves different layers and materials, you might need to have a partial or complete roof replacement.

Q: How long will a roof installation take?

A: Some projects can be done in a day while others can take a few days. It all depends on the size of the roof and the materials being used. The only way to get an accurate answer for this question is getting a quote

Q: Why are my shingles discolored?

A: Discoloration is a good indicator that you have algae, mold, or fungus living in the shingles. Fortunately this issue isn't prevalent in a desert, but your roof can still be affected if there's areas that can hold water longer. If your roof doesn't look uniform in color anymore, it's most likely time to give us a call for a solution.
